Job Description
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Waste
Shipping Engineer to join the Regulated Materials Shipping team in
Niskayuna, NY!
This position offers valuable career building experience through
interface with high levels of management, regulatory agencies,
treatment, storage, and disposal facilities, and the Naval Nuclear
Propulsion Program. It also offers the opportunity to gain
familiarity with the interpretation of applicable regulatory
requirements (e.g. EPA, DOT, NRC, DOE, etc.). This role involves
characterizing waste for treatment/disposal at off-site disposal
facilities, certifying radioactive and hazardous waste for
disposal, interface with disposal facilities to identify disposal
options, and shipping radioactive, hazardous, and mixed waste to
disposal facilities. Also as part of this role, the selected
candidate will perform the review of work documents, engineering
evaluations, and/or analyses to support assigned task,
interpretation of regulatory requirements for implementation into
waste management practices, prepare and maintain records/reports to
meet regulatory and Program requirements, identify improvements to
existing processes, interface between waste generators and
Regulated Materials to ensure for compliant generation of regulated
waste, and lead or provide support for inspections and interface
with outside regulatory agencies.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in
engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant
experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or
university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of
relevant experience; or Currently or previously NPE qualified; or
CTE/ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations
Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling
Engineer and 1 year as SRE.
Preferred Skills
Experience in the interpretation and application of the 49 CFR
requirements related to the classification, packaging, and shipment
of hazardous materials.
Experience in the interpretation and application of the 40 CFR
waste regulations.
Contamination worker qualification.
Demonstrated excellent attention to detail and real-time
independent decision making.
Ability to work efficiently in a cross-functional team
environment.
Proficiency in typical Microsoft software such as Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint.

Pay Range
$83,600.00 - $130,700.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual
salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as
well as market and business considerations
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of
